As Democrats we have a lot to celebrate as 2018 comes to a close. Our county led North Carolina in turnout, and at least in Chatham, every Democrat on our ballot won. All our local candidates were winners! Working with our amazing volunteers and community activists, and with the resources provide by our donors, CCDP mounted our best Get Out The Vote effort to date.
Results in the state were also encouraging
- We broke the Republican legislative supermajority … in both chambers.
- We elected not only a Democratic Supreme Court Justice but also three Democrats to the NC Court of Appeals.
- Our state party recruited the most diverse array of Democratic candidates ever in North Carolina. The numbers of women, persons of color, LGBTQ, and young persons who ran were amazing. Our slate, unlike the slate of other political parties here, was an awesome, more accurate reflection of our State.
But elections are cyclical, and it is time to prepare for 2020 — when we can continue to push back reactionary leadership and policies. Our work starts with the 2019 Precinct meetings.
All registered Democrats are urged to attend their precinct meetings. At this meeting you will:
- Learn about the work we are doing for this election cycle and opportunities to help,
- Get to know fellow Democrats,
- Learn about coming activities,
- Elect delegates to the County Convention,
- Review proposed resolutions and vote on what to send to the county convention.
Information on writing and submitting a resolution to your precinct is here. The road to winning elections up and down the ballot starts with your precinct.
Need to find out which precinct you live in? Look it up on the NC Board of Elections website.

Our upcoming MCH precinct meeting and election is scheduled for Tuesday, February 26th from 7:00 to 9:00PM at Woods Charter School. I hope to see you there so that we have a WINNING TEAM for 2020- we need YOUR help.
Doors will open at 6:30 for registration and the meeting will be called to order at 7:00 PM.
Please go to the registration tables in the lobby to sign in before proceeding to the Great Room (auditorium) where the meeting will be held. Only registered Democrats can make resolutions and vote in the precinct meeting, so registration is an important first step. If your contact information has changed, please update it during registration.
We’ll have copies of the agenda, resolutions and other materials available in the lobby. In addition to the registration table, other tables will be designated for resolutions and volunteer sign-ups, and we’ll be conducting a precinct-level “straw poll” to see which (potential) presidential candidate(s) MCH Democrats are thinking about supporting in 2020: Whom do YOU want to see on the ticket in 2020? We’ll share the straw poll results during the meeting.
We’ll adjourn the meeting promptly at 9:00PM, because we are in rented space and we’re required to be out of the building so that it can be secured for the night.
PRECINCT ELECTION: We really need some willing Democrats to step up and run for precinct offices, especially for the position of Chair, because I’m unable to run again this term due to my travel schedule. MCH has a great team of reliable volunteers, and I can assure anyone who will consider running for chair that you’ll have lots of support, including mine. MCH made a huge difference in the 2018 elections and we will again in 2020 with YOUR help. Please contact me or Mark Barroso if you’d like to talk about running- we would love to hear from you!
RESOLUTIONS: If you have any resolutions for consideration, please submit them in writing ahead of the meeting. Our available time for the meeting is limited by our rental agreement with the school, so it’s critical to streamline the process as much as possible so that we can give the resolutions the attention they deserve. David Delaney has agreed to be the MCH liaison and contact for resolutions. Here’s a link to the NCDP Resolutions Guide

ADDITIONAL MEETING INFORMATION & DOCUMENTS: please check the CCDP website for additional information about party activities and precinct meeting documents. I’m including a link to the precinct meetings webpage, which has a summary and links for additional precinct meeting documents. It’s been a pleasure and privilege to have served as the MCH chair. I can assure you that our MCH successes over the last term were a team effort, and I thank you all for your past, continued and future support.
SEE YOU ON FEBRUARY 26TH!!!
