Recently there have been a number of racist hate rallies, so-called "Confederate Flag Rallies", around the state, following the murders of nine members of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Charleston, the taking down of the SC flag, and the NC GA passage of legislation supporting the 100 confederate monuments around the state. A hate rally is planned for Saturday, August 8, starting with a motorcade in Burlington, down Hwy 70, and ending with a rally on the steps of the Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough at 2 PM. 

County NAACP Branches from the Region, Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, NAACP State Conference President; Dr. Tim B. Tyson, NAACP State Conference Educational Chair;  Ms. Laurel Ashton, NAACP State Conference Field Secretary, Piedmont and Western Districts; and other elected officials. Faith leaders and HKonJ partner congregations are expected.
