NCDP Files Formal Complaint

North Carolina Democratic Party Files a Formal Complaint with the State Board of Elections against Americans for Prosperity

Raleigh - Today the North Carolina Democratic Party filed a complaint against Americans for Prosperity (AFP) with the North Carolina Board of Elections.  Over the past week, thousands of mailers were sent by AFP in multiple waves to households across North Carolina, encouraging legal residents, citizens, dead people and even a cat to register to vote in the upcoming election.  The complaint, sworn by NCDP Executive Director Casey Mann, requests a formal investigation into the misleading mailers, which draw from a long and sordid right wing history of spreading electoral disinformation designed to restrict voting---especially when their candidates are trailing in the polls

“Today we are taking a stand against voter suppression, intimidation and electoral disinformation,” said NCDP Executive Director Casey Mann. “We request a full, speedy and transparent investigation by the State Board of Elections into this matter and, if warranted, request that the Wake County District Attorney’s Office be given the matter for prosecution. Democracy is at its best when all eligible citizens are able to participate in the process. It is our goal to ensure that North Carolinians are provided with accurate information and equal opportunity to exercise their right to vote.”
