Attention: Elected Officials, Any Political Party Representatives, any Citizen Organizations or persons interested in the Election process and changes in 2016
From: Dawn Stumpf on behalf of the Chatham County Board of Elections
The Chatham County Board of Elections is hosting an Outreach/Voter ID Seminar.
The seminar will be at the Chatham County Agricultural Auditorium on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 6:00 pm.
Beginning in 2016, North Carolina will require voters to show a photo identification (photo ID) when they present to vote in person. This change is a result of the Voter Information Verification Act or "VIVA". (S.L. 2013-381).
This seminar serves a threefold purpose:
- To provide information about the new Photo ID requirement and answer frequently asked questions such as:
o What are the proposed rules regarding Photo ID at the polls?
o Where can I get a free ID card for voting purposes?
o What are acceptable forms of photo ID for voting?
o What are the exceptions to the Photo ID requirement that goes into effect in
- To provide to any interested person information concerning the Voter Outreach efforts that are being made by the Voter Outreach team from the State Board of Elections.
o This team is focused on identifying and assisting those voters that currently
do not have photo ID that will meet the Photo ID requirements to vote in
o They will discuss efforts made in that direction and how you can help.
- To provide party representatives information about qualifications of poll workers that will be appointed to serve for the next 2 years. The State Board of Elections is mandated to adopt rules to administer photo ID requirements for in person voting.
o Poll workers names are submitted by the parties to the Chatham County
Board of Elections for appointment in August 2015.
o Poll workers must adhere to the new rules as adopted.
We invite any interested person to attend. Please share this with anyone that may be interested in getting more information about photo ID requirements or in being a precinct official.
