Process for Selecting the Replacement for the
Chatham County Register of Deeds
The current Chatham County Register of Deeds is resigning effective November 1, 2014. The Register of Deeds is an elected position.
The selection process for a replacement as outlined in the NC General Statutes states that the political party of the current Register of Deeds selects the replacement to complete the term of office. The current Register of Deed is a Democrat. A weighted vote of the political party’s precinct representatives from the Executive Committee determines the replacement.
Among the requirements of this position, the candidate must reside in Chatham County and be registered to vote in Chatham.

Individuals who meet the qualifications for the position may place their name in nomination by emailing or mailing their intention to be a nominee with any supporting information they wish to submit to the Chair of the Chatham County Democratic Party. Nominations will be accepted through Monday, October 13,2014. If nominations are mailed by U.S. Post, envelopes must be postmarked Monday, October 13, 2014.
A list of nominees and supporting materials provided will be distributed Chairs and Vice Chairs of the Chatham Democratic Party no later than Thursday, October 16, 2014.
The CCDP Executive Committee will vote to fill the Chatham County Register of Deeds seat at our meeting on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. The location of the meeting is pending and will be updated here once identified. The meeting convenes at 6:30 PM.
Nominees should attend the meeting and will have three minutes to make a statement to the Executive Committee. The CCDP Executive Committee members may also ask questions of nominees. Total time for questions will be decided based on the number of nominees.
